Fitzcarraldo Film Review

Two evenings ago my wife and I finally watched Fitzcarraldo.

The next day, she said, Do you remember yesterday when we watched Fitzcarraldo?

She said it in that way she does to poke fun at me, but to remind me also that she loves me enough to not only take a chance on a movie like Fitzcarraldo, directed by Werner Herzog, but also to sit through, engaged, the entire two and a half hours.

We were transported onto those Amazonion rivers, felt the pain when people lost belief in the protagonist, and finally felt the elation at his triumph and homecoming.

When it seems like someone is trying to pull a boat over a mountain, I say let him do it.
